Hi mars and giom,
Sorry for the slow reply; was away on vacation. First off, thanks for the advice. Following the directions on the wiki page you supplied did the trick. In DFU mode, my OWL was listed as STM Device in DFU Mode (if I remember correctly).
Thanks for updating the wiki!
I have not tried this. Didn’t know the page existed. I would suggest that you put something about this in the ‘How to update the firmware and get the latest patches’ section of the Getting Started page – rather important info for Windows users!
I will give this a go, thanks. Do I need to switch back to the standard driver after making the firmware update, or can I leave it as is? Also, will this issue be resolved in a future update of OwlNest?
Had a hunch, and turns out I was right. I tried updating the firmware on a Mac at my office this morning and it worked like a charm. The OwlNest software simply doesn’t work properly on my Windows 8.1 64-bit system.
Please look into this!
Hi. I’m following the instructions to update the firmware via OwlNest but I’m getting “probing for DFU device” and then “could not find a connected dfu device” at 16%. The app then stalls. The pedal also becomes unresponsive until I disconnect and reconnect the cable.
Thank you for your quick reply and offer to assist. I will send you my details via email.
Starting to think I’ve got a defective unit here. I’ve done nothing more than try to update the firmware and the unit is now useless and has been for months. I’m totally sensitive to the fact that this early days for the owl and you guys are working hard, but after spending a good chunk of coin on this, I’m left with a dead box and mounting frustration. Can I get a replacement or a refund?
I’m not having any luck getting the device into DFU mode. I’m getting fast Red/Green. Is there any easy way to update the bootloader yet?
Just wondering if there are any updates on this? My pedal is still dead in the water – need to get it reset.
Great news. Thanks Giom.
Very good points Martin – thank you for your thoughts.
Just so eager to make noises!
I can switch patches from within OwlNest, yes. I’ll play around with it some more today, but I tried a few patches this way and all I was getting when I plugged in my guitar was a loud gain hum. The knobs didn’t do anything.
Hopefully some good software tools are on the way for the non-coding musicians. If there was an easy way to restore factory software settings without having to use (or in my case fail at) cygwin, that would be helpful.
Can anyone help? Really frustrating waiting so long to get this pedal and now it’s dead.
I have no experience with command line/git/etc. (I had a stab at updating the bootloader but didn’t get very far – completely lost).
Thanks for responding. I downloaded the firmware from the website. I’m on Windows 8.
After redownloading OwlNest, I can now get info from the pedal and send patches; however, once complete, I cannot switch between patches using the pedal (it just stays on one colour), and neither patch works when I plug in a sound source. Still crashing when I try to update the firmware.
No idea about posting stack traces.
Thanks for putting this together!
Great news. Can’t wait.
I think getting some sounds published would really help the Kickstarter campaign. For those of us who aren’t interested in programming (or can’t program), there is still almost nothing in the way of “Here are some sounds you will be able to make if you back this project”.
