Getting Started With OWL Pedal

What's in the Box

  • 1x OWL Pedal
  • 1x Micro USB Cable
  • 4x Rubber feet

Connecting It

The OWL Pedal has connections for stereo audio in (right side) and out (left side), and an expression pedal input (bottom right) on ¼” jacks.

Connections on the rear of the unit are for DC power supply and for micro USB. The OWL Pedal can be powered from USB or via 9v DC power supply. For optimal performance, we recommend using a 9v DC power supply, centre negative, providing at least 500mA. Daisy chaining with other pedals is not recommended.

There are 6 controls on the pedal:

  • 4 x knobs
  • 1 x bicolour LED pushbutton
  • 1 x stereo true bypass footswitch

Using It

When the OWL Pedal is powered on, it starts the first factory patch: `Jot Reverb`. Turn the top four knobs to adjust the A, B, C and D parameters of the patch. Connect an expression pedal to the expression pedal input to control the `E` parameter.

The pedal comes with 40 installed patches. The last four are user programmable patch slots. To change patch, press and hold down the LED pushbutton for about 3 seconds until the LED flashes. Turn the `A` knob to select from 5 banks of patches. Turn the `B` knob to select from 8 patches in each bank. As you turn either knob, each step toggles the LED between green and red.

Hardware connections & controls

The OWL has connections for stereo audio in and out and also an expression pedal input (bottom right) on ¼” jacks.

Connections on the rear of the unit are for DC power supply (9v centre pin negative), and for micro USB. The OWL can be powered from USB or via 9v DC power supply. For optimal performance, we recommend using a 9v DC power supply, centre negative, providing at least 500mA. Daisy chaining with other pedals is not recommended.

There are 6 controls on the pedal:

  • 4 x knobs - these control different parameters of the currently selected effect patch, and are freely assignable for when creating your own patches.
  • 1 x bicolour LED switch - currently this is used for switching between the 2 available patch slots, and also for putting the pedal into Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode for updating the firmware.
  • 1 x stereo true bypass footswitch - for bypassing the pedal electronics entirely, this switch connects the input directly to the output jacks.

Controlling It

Connect your OWL Pedal to a computer with the USB cable. The OWL is a USB MIDI device and should show up in your DAW as `OWL-MIDI`. You can change patch by sending Program Change messages in the range 1 to 40. For full control of the OWL Pedal, use the OwlControl application.

Programming It

The OWL Modular can be programmed using either the Online Compiler or a local build environment with OwlProgram. Compiled patches can be uploaded to the device with OwlControl.
